Custom LED Stone Lighting: LED Sheets for Backlit Stone, Signs and Displays

Custom LED stone lighting starts with the slab, not the fixture. We make flexible 24V LED sheets cut to the size and shape of your onyx, agate or marble panel, so the whole surface glows evenly, and the same custom sheets light signs, display cases and retail panels. Custom LED sheet lighting is used when a standard light panel, LED strip or fixed-size module cannot match the project dimensions, brightness target or installation space. This page explains how to plan a custom LED light sheet for backlit stone, signage, display cases, retail panels and architectural surfaces.

Custom dimensions Match the illuminated area, cutouts and cable exits instead of forcing the design around a stock fixture.
Application brightness Plan LED density and power around the material, viewing distance and desired visual result.
Project-ready wiring Confirm voltage, driver location, controller type and service access before production.

LED stone backlighting: what makes it look even

LED stone backlighting works when the light reaches the back of the slab as one smooth layer. Three things decide that, and all three are set when the custom sheet is planned:

  • Gap to the stone: 30–80 mm depending on the stone and the sheet density; about 50 mm is a good starting point. We confirm it with a piece of your actual slab. See how far LED sheets should be from stone.
  • LED density and white: denser sheets for shallow cavities; CRI 95+ white channels so the veining keeps its real color; warm white for honey onyx, 4000K or above for white marble.
  • Service access: sheets on a backing panel or removable tray, drivers in a cabinet with a normal door, large surfaces wired in zones. See installing LED sheets so they can be serviced.

Typical projects: backlit stone countertops and kitchen islands, backlit onyx walls and bars, and the jade and Pandora stone islands in our project gallery.

What Is Custom LED Sheet Lighting?

Custom LED sheet lighting uses a thin LED sheet or custom backlighting layout made for a specific illuminated surface. Instead of choosing a finished fixture first, the project team starts with the visible area, material, cavity depth, power plan and installation method. The LED sheet is then selected or customized to fit those requirements.

This approach is especially useful for backlit stone, feature walls, light boxes, retail graphics, illuminated counters, display cases and shallow cabinet lighting. In these projects, the final appearance depends on uniformity. A sheet layout can place light across the surface more evenly than a few rows of LED strip.

Best use case: choose custom LED sheet lighting when the project needs a specific size, shallow depth, unusual shape, higher uniformity or a defined wiring plan.

When to Use a Custom LED Sheet

Project condition Why custom helps Recommended next step
Translucent stone or onyx Stone varies in thickness, color and veining, so light spacing must be tested. Send slab size and material photos for layout review.
Shallow sign cabinet LED strip may show lines or hotspots when the diffuser distance is small. Confirm face material, cabinet depth and target brightness.
Irregular shape or cutout Custom sheets can be planned around curves, logos, sinks, shelves or openings. Provide CAD, PDF or dimensioned sketches before production.
Retail display or showcase Light source must fit inside millwork without blocking product display. Plan cable exit, driver access and dimming control early.
Large backlit panel Power injection, voltage drop and zone control become important. Use a wiring layout and driver schedule before installation.
Custom LED sheet lighting for display cases and showcases
Display cases and showcases often require low-profile custom lighting with clean cable routing and controlled brightness.

Information Needed for a Custom LED Sheet Quote

A good quote depends on more than width and height. The more complete the project information is, the easier it is to recommend the right LED sheet type, power supply and wiring layout.

  • Visible illuminated size and total quantity.
  • Application type: stone, sign, display, cabinet, wall panel or other use.
  • Material type, thickness and color if the light passes through a surface.
  • Available cavity depth behind the visible surface.
  • Voltage preference, control method and dimming requirement.
  • Cable exit position and driver location.
  • Drawings, sketches or photos when cutouts or irregular shapes are involved.

If you are still estimating the project, use the LED light sheet calculator first, then send the final dimensions through the custom LED light sheet quote form.

Custom LED Sheet Lighting Options

Single-color white

Single-color white is common for stone, signs, shelves and display panels. Color temperature should match the material and surrounding lighting. Warm white can suit hospitality stone and bars, while neutral or cool white may suit retail displays and clean graphic panels.

Tunable white

Tunable white LED sheets allow adjustment between warm and cool white. This can help designers match the mood of a room or compensate for different stone tones.

RGB, RGBW and addressable effects

Color-changing sheets can be used in branded displays, entertainment spaces and feature walls. They require matching controllers, channel planning and a clear wiring layout. For control selection, see how to choose an LED controller.

Cuttable or project-shaped layouts

Some flexible LED sheets can be cut on approved lines, while other projects need a drawing-based layout. Review the flexible PCB LED light sheets product page when the project needs a custom-size backlighting sheet.

Power, Wiring and Installation

Custom LED sheet lighting should be planned as a system. The sheet, driver, controller, cable and mounting method all affect the result. Large panels may need multiple feed points. Dimming systems must be matched to the controller and power supply. Drivers should remain accessible for service.

Before closing a wall, cabinet or stone panel, test the layout with the real material. For power planning, use the LED light sheet power supply guide. For mounting and cutting details, follow the LED light sheet installation guide.

Cable Exits, Control Zones and Layout Review

A custom LED sheet is more than a different size. Cutting zones, cable exits, power feeds, control groups, connector positions and mounting details all need to be decided before production, so the layout fits the project instead of forcing the project to fit a standard panel.

  • Cable exits: power feeds and exits positioned for a cleaner installation and service access.
  • Control zones: dimming, tunable white, RGB/RGBW or segmented control for larger illuminated surfaces.
  • Layout review: we check the model, cutting limits, cable exits, power feeds and controller together. For translucent stone and other variable materials, approve the lighting on the actual material or an agreed sample before confirming production.

FAQ

Can LED sheet lighting be made to a custom size?

Yes. Depending on the product type, LED sheets can be cut on approved lines or produced in a project-specific layout. Send dimensions and drawings before ordering.

Is custom LED sheet lighting suitable for stone?

Yes. It is commonly used behind translucent stone, onyx, marble and decorative panels. A material test is recommended because every slab transmits light differently.

What voltage is used for custom LED sheets?

Many custom LED sheets use 12V DC or 24V DC constant-voltage power supplies. The voltage must match the LED sheet specification and control system.

How fast can a custom LED sheet quote be prepared?

A quote can be prepared faster when dimensions, quantity, material type, drawings and wiring requirements are provided at the start.

Send your custom LED sheet lighting project

Share dimensions, material, drawings, quantity and target application. We can help review sheet type, layout, driver size and wiring plan.

Request a Custom LED Sheet Lighting Layout for Stone or Signage

For backlit stone, signage, and display panels, share the visible size, stone or diffuser thickness, cavity depth, wire exit, color temperature, voltage, and quantity so the LED sheet layout can be checked before production.

Custom projects are quoted faster when drawings, photos, and sample requirements are submitted together.
