I already have an RGB controller — will it work with an RGBCCT sheet?
I already have a normal RGB controller — can I just wire it up to an RGBCCT sheet and get the full effect? Not fully. It will run red, green, and blue, but it cannot drive warm-white and cool-white on their own, so you lose the tunable white you ordered the sheet for. If white matters, you need separate warm-white and cool-white channels, at the right voltage and derated range.
What the extra channels do
An RGBCCT sheet has five light channels on six cores: common positive, plus red, green, blue, warm white, and cool white. Mixing the two whites moves light from warm to cool, without faking white from red, green, blue.
The BG-0318 is a 490 × 245 mm RGBCCT sheet with 640 2835 LEDs, at 24V and 50W per sheet. Its whites are 2700K and 6000K, wired V+, R, G, B, warm, cool. An RGB-only controller has nowhere to put the last two cores.
| Core | Drives | On a 3-channel RGB controller |
|---|---|---|
| V+ | Common positive | Connected |
| R, G, B | Red, green, blue | Controlled |
| Warm white | 2700K white | No independent control |
| Cool white | 6000K white | No independent control |
The BG-0313 RGBW sheet is different: one white channel, fixed at 3000K or 6000K, 512 LEDs, 45W, 5 cores. It cannot tune between warm and cool.
What happens on a 3-channel controller
Whites stay dark if you leave them unconnected. The sheet lights in colour only, passes a quick power-on check, and fails when someone asks for warm white.
Tie the whites together and they light at a fixed blend, with no shift for stone that reads differently under warm and cool light. Confirm that workaround with the supplier first.
RGB-mixed white is not the same light. It cannot give a dedicated 2700K white, a dedicated 6000K white, or a stable blend between them, and that difference shows in backlit stone, resin, glass, and signage.
If a job needs colour only, a 3-channel controller will run it — but then the RGBCCT whites go unused. Keep RGBCCT for jobs where tunable white is specified.
What to check instead
Shop by channel list, not by RGB on the box. Look for separate warm-white and cool-white outputs, and a terminal order matching V+, R, G, B, warm, cool. A pin-order mismatch is costly to fix after mounting.
The BG-0318 runs at 24V, so the controller output must be 24V. Driver power, briefly, should be at least total LED power divided by 0.8.
Run controllers within 70–80% of rating, not at full rating. Two BG-0318 sheets total 100W before headroom, so size for that total, and confirm if its rating is in amps. One sheet can fit; several spliced sheets can overload it.
If any item — separate whites, 24V, pin order, derated load — is unclear, treat the controller as unconfirmed.
How to confirm before ordering
Check before sheets ship. Send sheet model, sheets per controller, voltage, and the controller datasheet, and ask for written confirmation: separate whites, matching voltage, matching terminal order, and load inside the derated range.
Already own a controller? Photograph its terminals and rating label. A model name can hide a variant; a photo shows what it can drive. No controller yet? Ask the supplier to confirm by channel specification, not by brand name.
Test the real combination: a sample sheet on the intended controller, in front of the intended material, shows whether warm, cool, and blends behave. See flexible PCB LED light sheets for the specifications to send with that check.
FAQ
Can I use an RGB controller for now and upgrade later?
Yes, for colour only. Keep the white cores accessible for reconnecting when you switch controllers.
Will a 3-channel controller damage an RGBCCT sheet?
Channel count alone is not the main risk. Confirm voltage, total load, and derated headroom before powering up.
Is RGB-mixed white good enough for backlit stone?
For a quick colour effect, yes. For tunable white, no — it cannot reproduce dedicated 2700K, dedicated 6000K, or a controlled blend.
How do I tell from a listing whether a controller handles RGBCCT?
Read the channel list and terminal diagram. You need warm white and cool white as separate outputs; if either is missing, ask the seller to confirm in writing.
What should I send for a compatibility check?
Sheet model, sheets per controller, voltage, and the datasheet or a photo of terminals and rating label, plus how white will be used.
Request a quote or a sample
Do not leave this to installation day. Send sheet model, sheet count, and controller details, and ask for confirmation of separate whites at the right voltage and headroom. Request a quote or a sample with those details, and test sheet and controller together before the full run.
