I Want to Test a Sheet Behind My Stone First — What Actually Comes in a Sample Kit?

I don’t want to order a full panel before I know it will look right behind my stone — so what actually comes in a sample kit? A useful kit is a light sheet, a driver matched to it, and a controller for dimming or colour control, plus the cable to connect them. Exact contents vary by model and order, so confirm the full list before ordering and check the three parts are paired to work together.

What Will I Actually Be Able to Test?

Brightness and uniformity behind your material. Test behind the stone, resin, or glass you plan to use, not a substitute offcut. Check edge to edge for dim patches, bright spots, and visible dots. If sheets will be spliced into a larger panel, test the joint too — unevenness shows there first.

Colour temperature against the real material. Stone and resin shift colour: warm white can turn one slab yellow, cool white can wash veining out of another. Test the white channels you intend to use, in lighting close to the finished installation’s.

Dimming and colour control. Run this through the kit’s controller, not a bench supply. Check dimming stays smooth at the low end, where stepping and flicker show most, and colour holds steady across the sheet.

Distance and diffuser behaviour. The gap between sheet and material, and any diffuser in that gap, change the result more than most buyers expect. Test at the cavity depth you plan to build, with the diffuser you plan to use; change either, and retest.

How Do the Sheet, Driver, and Controller Fit Together?

The sheet is the light source: a flexible PCB panel covered with LEDs, with a 3M adhesive backing. The glowing area is 1.6mm thick; the connector is 5.6mm. Allow 6mm clearance at the connector and 2mm at the glowing area when planning the build-up.

The driver converts mains power to the sheet’s low voltage — 12V or 24V by model — and must be rated above the total power of the sheet or sheets it runs, with headroom for a larger panel or a second spliced sheet.

The controller sits between driver and sheet and handles dimming and colour. Its channel count must match the sheet: single-colour needs simple dimming, colour-changing needs a channel for every colour and white circuit, and its rating must sit above the load it carries.

Confirm cable length too: the lead between controller and sheet, and between spliced sheets, sets how far the test panel can sit from the driver.

What Should I Check Before I Order?

Kit composition is not fixed, so confirm these before ordering:

Confirm this Why it matters
Sheet model Size, voltage, and white channels differ
Driver and controller pairing Must match voltage, channels, and power
Cable length Sets driver position in your test
Diffuser Test with your actual diffuser
Number of sheets One tests colour; spliced tests uniformity
  • BG-0318 (RGBCCT): 2835 LEDs, 640 per sheet, 490 × 245mm, 24V, 50W. Two whites — 2700K warm, 6000K cool — plus red, green, blue, on a 6-core connection (V+, R, G, B, warm, cool). Pick this to compare warm and cool white on the same material.
  • BG-0313 (RGBW): 512 LEDs, 45W, 5-core. White is a single channel, 3000K or 6000K — pick this only once you have settled on one white temperature.
  • BG-2002 (single-colour): 288 LEDs, 610 × 305mm, 30W — for one fixed colour with dimming only.

If none matches your project, say so when you enquire. See the wider range on the flexible PCB LED light sheet page.

FAQ

Do I need the driver and controller, or can I test the sheet alone?

Lighting alone proves little. Without them you cannot test dimming, colour stability, or clean running at your planned size.

Is a diffuser included in the kit?

Not necessarily. Some kits leave it to the buyer, since it depends on material and cavity depth. Confirm explicitly, and test with the diffuser you will install.

How many sheets should a kit contain?

Enough to reproduce your main risk. One sheet answers colour questions; spliced sheets are needed to judge joints and full-panel uniformity.

What if the kit’s driver or controller does not suit my project?

Flag it before ordering in quantity. The kit is the cheapest place to find a voltage, channel, or cable mismatch — confirm the corrected pairing in writing.

Request a Sample Kit

Tell the supplier your material, panel size, white or colour range, and planned cavity depth — then confirm the exact sheet model, driver and controller pairing, cable length, and diffuser arrangement before it ships. Request a quote with those details, so the kit tests the installation you are actually planning.
